All four of us were at the mall a few days ago. Liam went with Kevin to get his hair cut. Kieran came with me to find some iced coffee. At the coffee shop he demonstrated his hunger by screaming when he couldn’t reach through the glass display case to extract one of the ever-so-alluring bagels displayed within. I bought him a bagel and handed it over. I was rewarded with a dimply smile and a belly laugh.
We walked around together, Kieran munching his bagel and I sipping my coffee. A woman came up, giggled and cooed at Kieran, and then said to me, “I wouldn’t let him eat that bagel if I were you.” I thought she must be concerned about him choking on it, so I thanked her for her concern and assured her that Kieran has plenty of experience eating bagels.
She replied, “Oh, no, I didn’t think he would choke. It’s just…look how chubby he is. If he keeps on eating loads of carbs, he’ll be obese before long. It’s a childhood epidemic these days, you know.” And she walked off.
I don’t get out much, but seriously, since when is a chubby baby a cause for concern??
Sheesh. People these days worry too much.

i have so many things that i would like to say to that woman. of course had it happened to me in real life i would have had my jaw sitting on the floor rather than being able to think of snappy come backs.

unbelievable! I get that with Squidge sometimes- people are always commenting on her ‘big belly’ and ‘my she sure does look healthy’ really pisses me off. Babies are SUPPOSED to be chubby- dumba$$es!!
