He’s our new pet here at The Menagerie House. Obviously he is a guinea pig, and he’s eighteen months old. Some clients of our vet needed to rehome this gentle little creature, and so our vet gave them our name as being an animal-friendly family. The last of our ferrets, Houdini, passed away in January, and our vet knew that we were missing having a small and fuzzy friend in the house.
Guinea pigs need a steady supply of fresh veggies, particularly greens, in their diet, and the boys and I have been having fun picking grass and dandelion greens for Willie. The boys ask to feed him his morning parsley when they get up, and they love to give him tickles and kisses.
We’ve had him for two weeks now and he has settled in well. Initially he was a bit skittish with us, but now he runs to the door of his hutch and squeaks when he sees us. Liam is looking forward to introducing Willie to his 1st grade teacher when she comes by for a visit this week.
Guinea pigs often live to be 6-7 years old, so we’re looking forward to lots of fun times with Willie.
Oh yes, pigs can live a while. We just lost one of our three a few months ago. June was at least 6. We still have two, Serena and Polly. Polly is June’s daughter-we got them together when Polly was just a few months old. All three were ‘rescue pigs’ June and Polly from an rescue organization and Serena was returned to Petco malnourished and soaked in urine. She had such a sweet disposition and was so cute (she is a coronet) that I couldn’t help but take her home.Unfortunately June and Polly are/were bullies but we haven’t had any major battles in a long time. June and Polly are teddy bear guinea pigs, look cute but man, those two were cranks.

So sorry to hear about Houdini. It sounds as though Willie will be a great fit for your family. He’s so cute!
Very cute! We also ended up with a couple of guinea pig additions to our home a couple of months ago. Ours are 2 years old, and needed a new home – I think we might be catching up to you on number of pets!
(2 dogs, 2 pigs, 2 fish!) One of our two pigs is more social than the other, and just like your Willie, she puts her paws on the side of the cage and squeels whenever anyone is nearby. Have fun with Willie!!
